Hi All,
I'm after some advice (that'll come as a surprise I know...). I have 5 acres which I currently maintain using a Fergy 35 (4 -cyl Diesel). I'm a bit sick and tired of this old Fergy being so hard to start and not really being suitable for my wife to use. As I work full time my wife is keen to do some mowing while she is at home and I am keen to encourage this! I am looking at a B8200HST (Orange) which is the first Kubota machine I have looked at and am thinking of buying it. It has the Hydrostatic and is a 4WD. The dealer reckons it has 2000 - 3000 hours on it but reckons it is hard to tell as once they over 999 you cant tell (does this sound right?). I do trust this dealer and they have a good name. The machine has 4 good Turf tyres and a roll bar. It is in average condition (paint and panelwork) but seems to start and run well (no smoke) and the dealer will fully service the machine if I do purchase. I will use it for mowing (4ft pto mower) working a 6ft blade and maybe some spraying work (3ptl mounted tank with hoses). Our property is 70% flat and the balance rolling. The price is $NZ8700 which I think equates to $US5200.
Do you reckon this machine would suit my purpose, does this model have a good reputation and does the price sound like its in the right ballpark?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

I don't believe you are out of line for a price. I would let your wife drive it to see how she likes it. Good luck!! ....

Sounds OK and the tractor should do the work. I don't know if the implements come with the tractor or you already have them. A 6' blade probably is manageable but I'd check the 3ph capacity to ensure it would carry the particular sprayer. I don't know how wide the rear tractor tires are but it's good to have a mower that covers them. One that barely covers the tracks might leave a lot of trimming since you can't mow close to fences etc.
Comparing NA to NZ prices is a little dicey. A better comparison is with alternatives in your area. Used compacts tend to be rare so there may be nothing to compare it to locally. In that situation, a comparison is with something further away plus shipping costs. An economist probably would throw in costs for the time it takes to look and for the risk of buying something unseen. I had neither time nor alternatives when I bought mine. I did trust a dealer who is about a couple hours away and wasn't disappointed. A sense of trust and a good local reputation are pretty good measures.
The hour thing is that the tractor likely has a 3-digit proof meter that starts over again after 999. Sound like the meter shows very low hours and the dealer guesses it had turned over twice but maybe three times.
There may be some maintenance costs to absorb around those hours. I'd talk with the dealer to get a read on what to expect--some injector work and maybe the hydraulic pump. Art would know maintenance expectations of these tractors, but I think the engine and drive train can be expected to go for quite awhile before rebuilds are expected.

Hello,
I have a B8200 4WD HST and drag a 4' rotary cutter for clearing / cutting often and I'm very happy with it. I've never pulled a blade behind it but it pulls my 5 foot cultivator though heavy, rocky soil easily. My manual gives 250kg as the max weight for the 3ph.
Best of luck !
